Dr. Dawson is an Associate Professor in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry and the School of Engineering and the Center for Biomedical Engineering. Her laboratory focuses on physical and molecular factors that contribute to cancer progression in women within the interface of cell biology, bioengineering and medicine. Dawson is an R01 funded investigator and also serves at the Director of Graduate Studies in the Biomedical Engineering graduate program.
In her role as Associate Director, Dawson will oversee the Cancer Center’s education and training programming, a component of the cancer center support grant. Dawson will help to enhance the cancer-related training and education opportunities from the K-12, undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral and junior faculty career stages. This will entail leading efforts at the Legorreta Cancer Center to develop a distinctive cancer-specific training program to growth of cancer researchers at all levels.
Dr. Mathews is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her clinical and research focus is on gynecologic malignancies with a particular interest in endometrial cancer. Mathews is the principal investigator of numerous national cooperative group trials at the forefront of care of women with gynecological malignancies
In her upcoming role as Co-Chair, Mathews will oversee the Cancer Center’s SRMC work that is focused on ensuring the rigorous internal oversight of scientific aspects of the center’s clinical research. This includes a two-stage scientific review process, prioritizing the activation of trials and the termination of protocols. The SRMC also considers the accrual of minorities and other underrepresented populations onto trials.
Dr. Mathews will help to facilitate collaborations at the Legorreta Cancer Center and Brown University’s affiliated hospitals so that all patients with cancer will have maximal access to clinical trial options.
